Sermon: Godly Wisdom

The proper use of Godly wisdom is a gift of the spirit. As our Father in heaven seeks for us to become like Him. By having a knowledge of Him. In The Gospel of John we read.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21  He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:20 - 21)

We read in Psalms in The Old Testament:-

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psalms 111:10)

As we strive to apply wisdom in our lives we can begin by searching in the old testament. Moses said to the people at that time.

5  Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
6  Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. (Deuteronomy 4:5 - 6)

We have numerous examples of people who received revelation as to how they are to act in relation to their dealing, and actions towards their fellow men. One of the best explanations for understanding the wisdom of God, we can find in scripture, can be found is a father giving advice to his son. In the Book of Mormon we read the words of Alma to his son Helaman.

Preach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be meek and lowly in heart; teach them to withstand every temptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. 34  Teach them to never be weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly in heart; for such shall find rest to their souls.
35  O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.
36  Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever. (Alma 37:33 - 36)

In closing Daniel had a sound understanding of the correct use of wisdom. Although nothing is known about his parents. He appears to have been of royal descent. (Dan. 1:3).  He was taken captive to Babylon, where he received the name Belteshazzar. Daniel and certain Hebrews are trained in the court of Nebuchadnezzar, they eat plain food and drink no wine, God gives them knowledge and wisdom beyond all others. (Daniel 1:Heading)

20  Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21  And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22  He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
23  I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
(Daniel 2:20 - 23)

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
